Katie Davies / Peter Walters This exhibition features the work of a range of artists who have worked at the Centre for Fine Print Research, UWE in Bristol. Each of the works have been realised through the use of cutting edge digital print technologies and explore new relationships between the notion of object and illusion made possible by such means. A number of the works have been specially made for the show and explore the relationship between the second and third dimension in print. Such works include Katie Davies and Peter Walters collaborative piece that translates audio data from outerspace to create three dimensional shapes and two dimensional images. Jeremy Gardiner and Anthony Head’s piece however, is based around satellite images looking down to earth to map through virtual environments and 2D and 3D renderings an exploration of a section of the Dorset coast. As well as the new work, the exhibition features a work by Richard Hamilton printed at the CFPR in 2003 – The Typo Topography of Marcel Duchamp’s Large Glass – which maps and annotates Duchamp’s work in the form of a large inkjet print. Other work in the show includes an illuminated print by US artist Lesley Dill and laser cut prints by Charlotte Hodes. Event: Artist Talk by Jeremy Gardiner and Paul Thirkwell Artist Jeremy Gardiner will speak about the work he has produced in creative partnership with Anthony Head for the show. This includes a complex and fascinating 3D exploration of a UNESCO world heritage site where a virtual topographical landscape of the Jurassic Coast in Dorset can experienced by the viewer combining the characteristics of painting, drawing, computer animation, immersive Virtual Reality, ambient sound and satellite data. He will also speak about 3D dome relief prints and laser cut curved cherry wood panoramas that he made at the CFPR to accompany the virtual space of LIGHT YEARS: COAST. Curator of 3D 2D Object and Illusion in Print Paul Thirkell from the Centre for Fine Print Research, Bristol, will talk about the theme of the exhibition and outline how this has been explored by the artists in the show and provide insight into the work that went into the production of the prints at the CFPR. He will also outline some of the research that is undertaken at the Centre especially in relation to cutting edge print techniques such as 3D rapid prototype printing, laser cutting and artist quality wide format inkjet printing.

Edinburgh Printmakers Gallery is one of Scotland's foremost gallery spaces devoted to contemporary fine art original prints - most of which are made in our studio. Some of the most established artists working in Scotland use our studio alongside recent graduates, professional artists and many printmakers from all over the world, who come to use the facilities on offer. We have four print browsers - over 500 prints - visitors can view an amazing range of the best contemporary prints available in Scotland. We have highly knowledgeable gallery staff on hand to help and answer any queries about the artists, their working syles and subject matter. Exhibition Programme To complement the work on show by the resident artists we have a rolling programme of exhibitions representing the whole spectrum of contemporary graphic art. Previous exhibitions have ranged from the graphic works of artists such as Marc Chagall , David Hockney, Matisse and Picasso to contemporary American prints by such artists as - Andy Warhol and Jim Dine - to the wealth of talent that exists in Scotland itself. The Gallery and Studio are very centrally situated being only a few minutes walk from both the railway station, central bus station and the main shopping and cafe areas.
