Andrew Cranston Essays Norman Shaw > Vicki Bennett > Pricelist > See on YouTube > Edinburgh Printmakers presents its world premiere exhibition of new work exploring record cover art, curated by Sarah-Manning Cordwell, Norman Shaw, and Edward Summerton and published by Edinburgh Printmakers. This exhibition will include original prints by eleven Scottish artists and a new LP of music by People Like Us, aka international award-winning multimedia artist Vicki Bennett. Celebrating the vinyl record as an abiding audio-visual artefact, this project recalls the golden age of the record cover in the thick of post-psychedelia’s goth-surrealistic art-nouveau apocalyptic landscape explosion, now being revived in a current resurgence of collectable limited-edition records with original artwork. The record cover provides a fundamental interface between music and the still image, and has become an essential aspect of musical and visual subcultures. The art is often viewed for at least as long as the duration of the record – for much longer than most gallery-based work. The record cover synaesthetically maps the sonic journey inscribed on the record. People Like Us illuminates this dark visual ride with ‘This is Light Music’, an exclusive full-length picture-disc album in a limited edition of only 250. This record is available as part of a lavish limited edition boxed-set publication which houses the record and a pull-out poster in a gatefold sleeve, and includes essays by People Like Us and co-curator Norman Shaw. This publication is on sale throughout the exhibition, together with specially commissioned T’Shirts and badges by the participating artists.

Edinburgh Printmakers Gallery is one of Scotland's foremost gallery spaces devoted to contemporary fine art original prints - most of which are made in our studio. Some of the most established artists working in Scotland use our studio alongside recent graduates, professional artists and many printmakers from all over the world, who come to use the facilities on offer. We have four print browsers - over 500 prints - visitors can view an amazing range of the best contemporary prints available in Scotland. We have highly knowledgeable gallery staff on hand to help and answer any queries about the artists, their working syles and subject matter. Exhibition Programme To complement the work on show by the resident artists we have a rolling programme of exhibitions representing the whole spectrum of contemporary graphic art. Previous exhibitions have ranged from the graphic works of artists such as Marc Chagall , David Hockney, Matisse and Picasso to contemporary American prints by such artists as - Andy Warhol and Jim Dine - to the wealth of talent that exists in Scotland itself. The Gallery and Studio are very centrally situated being only a few minutes walk from both the railway station, central bus station and the main shopping and cafe areas.
