During the period of the Edinburgh Art Festival, Fringe Festival and Edinburgh International Festival, Edinburgh Printmakers are proud to present a solo exhibition of prints by globally acclaimed artist William Kentridge. Published by David Krut New York, the works in this exhibition have not been shown in Scotland before.

In addition we will hold limited screenings of a documentary film entitled William Kentridge: Drawing the Passing made by Maria Anna Tappeiner and Reinhard Wulf, a unique record of Kentridge at work in his studio, offering an exceptional insight into his creative process.

William Kentridge is undoubtedly the best-known living South African artist, currently in demand by major institutions all over the world. He is internationally renowned in the art world for his films, drawings, prints and theatre productions.

Gallery Talk

David Krut of DK Projects, New York & Johannesburg, will deliver a talk in Gallery 2 about William Kentridge’s prints on Saturday 28 July at 3pm, admission is free but it is necessary to book a place in advance.

Film Screenings

There will be limited film screenings in Gallery 2 of documentary William Kentridge: Drawing the Passing by Maria Anna Tappeiner and Reinhard Wulf, 11am, 12.30, 2.00  & 3.30pm, Tuesday to Saturday.

Edinburgh Printmakers Gallery is one of Scotland's foremost gallery spaces devoted to contemporary fine art original prints - most of which are made in our studio. Some of the most established artists working in Scotland use our studio alongside recent graduates, professional artists and many printmakers from all over the world, who come to use the facilities on offer. We have four print browsers - over 500 prints - visitors can view an amazing range of the best contemporary prints available in Scotland. We have highly knowledgeable gallery staff on hand to help and answer any queries about the artists, their working syles and subject matter.

Exhibition Programme

To complement the work on show by the resident artists we have a rolling programme of exhibitions representing the whole spectrum of contemporary graphic art. Previous exhibitions have ranged from the graphic works of artists such as Marc Chagall , David Hockney, Matisse and Picasso to contemporary American prints by such artists as - Andy Warhol and Jim Dine - to the wealth of talent that exists in Scotland itself. The Gallery and Studio are very centrally situated being only a few minutes walk from both the railway station, central bus station and the main shopping and cafe areas.
