Collaboration & Facilitation Derrick Guild Edinburgh Printmakers was established in 1967 to provide equipment and expertise to support artists, and is dedicated to the promotion of contemporary printmaking through entrance free galleries and an inexpensive, open access print studio; the first of it’s kind in Britain. We are recognised as an international leader in innovative contemporary printmaking practice and we commission and publish prints with some of the best and most exciting local, national and international contemporary artists living today. We invite artists into the studio to collaborate with our master printers on the production of limited edition prints in the areas of etching, lithography, screenprinting, relief and digital. We work with existing printmakers and also artists who have never worked in this medium and provide technical assistance and creative input to help them realise ideas or concepts. The artworks created by the artist and facilitated by the master printer are original prints: not a reproduction of an existing artwork. A limited number of prints are printed by the master printer as an edition, and on completion the edition is split between the artist and Edinburgh Printmakers. These prints are launched as part of our annual exhibition programme and are showcased at international art fairs and as part of touring exhibitions. These prints are sold through our galleries, and unlike the commercial art sector, profits do not go to a private art dealer, all monies go directly to the studio. This helps to sustain our artists’ careers and enables Edinburgh Printmakers to continue to maintain and develop the highest quality print studio facilities at affordable prices.
