Weather sequence.
This print is based on downloaded weather satellite imagery .
As images they express something about the scale and fluidty of nature.

The sequence of images at the base of the print comes from a
series of real satellite passes tracking a storm as it crosses the Atlantic. The shape of each pass being altered by the curve of the earth. Having been transmitted back to earth, weather satellite imagery is viewed on computer screens for meteorologists to analyse the information. Ironically this information is then transmitted back to the atmosphere to be downloaded over the internet and so the cycle goes on.

The shape of the lithographic stone is used as a reference to the rounded edges of a computer screen. It appeals to me that transferring this hi-tech satellite imagery directly onto a stone’s surface can alter its feel and change its point of reference, removing it from 21st century science and placing it back in ‘the stone age’.

Westerly is taken form the portfolio of prints ‘from the atmosphere’ which explore weather satellite imagery.
